The behavior of Republicans in the midst of this so-called debate over health care reform brings to mind the antics of that sly pussy we all know as The Cat in the Hat (in the animated, 1971 television show - not the book). After the infamous pussy makes a mess of things and it becomes clear that his shenanigans will only bring about more chaos and ruin, Mr. Crinklebein (the fish) insists that he depart. The mischievous pussy makes one last democratic appeal to the children, who concur with Mr. Crinklebein and begin to usher that silly pussy out the door. But alas, the Cat in the Hat will not go quietly into the night (or the rainy mid-afternoon, as it were). No, he begins to protest that someone - SOMEONE - has stolen his moss-covered, three-handled family credenza! While no one is quite sure just exactly what the fuck a moss- covered, three-handled family credenza is (""I'll tell you this... it's not in the unabridged dictionary!" says Mr. Crinklebein), they take the belligerent pussy at his word and begin to look for it. When an initial search is predictably fruitless, the cat suggests that they expand the search using the system known as Calculatus Eliminatus. Under the direction of the absurd pussy, the ever-gullible children proceed to make matters worse by inspecting and marking every object in the house with nonsensical codes comprised of letters, numbers, and dashes. With everyone thoroughly confused, the malevolent pussy continues his campaign of distraction by unleashing two blue-haired, midget demons called Thing One and Thing Two, who commence to really fuck some shit up - all of this as Mr. Crinklebein looks on helplessly, knowing that [the legs of] their mother will soon be home.
The difference between the Cat in the Hat and the pussies in the GOP is this: when the time finally comes for the cat to leave, just as the mother returns from her errands, the sociopathic pussy produces (and drives) a large, many-armed machine which magically restores the house to its prior condition - the condition it was in BEFORE he first arrived and made a filthy fucking mess of things.
I suspect that the Republicans do not have such a machine.
